Quick information:
Off Road Vehicles (ORV’s) on base are classified as an ATV, Side by Side (All types), Snowmobiles and road legal dual sport motorcycles.
Note: Motocross and/or Dirt Bikes are not permitted on Base Borden Rod and Gun Club Trails. Due to the CIP insurance coverage limits the liability insurance to ATV’s and Side by Sides vehicles only.
The motto of the BBRGC is “Conservation” therefore it is in the best interest of the ORV group to promote trail stewardship, trail etiquette and be environmentally conscious.
Safety is everyone’s responsibility on CFB Borden Multi-Use Trail systems. Whether you’re walking, running, cycling, or riding, staying alert, following posted signs, and being courteous to others helps ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Keep right, pass with care, and always be aware of your surroundings—together, we can keep the trail safe for everyone.
- You must have a valid Trail Permit Decal attached and visible on the Top Left Front Fender or fuel tank of your ORV. Trail permits are provided by BBRGC ORV Group, through the ORV Director.
- Must always have valid ownership and insurance coverage for the vehicle on your person.
- All ORV trails are Multi-Use Trails on base, show trail etiquette and stay on designated trails.
- Take the shortest/safest route from your PMQ/Place of work to a designated trail(s).
- At all times when in or around residential areas, maintain low speeds and reduce excessive noise. The maximum speed is 30 km/h, while riding on base during operating hours of 0700 – 2200 hrs.
- The Trillium Trail is strictly out of bounds. (Paved Trail).
- Minors (under 18 years of age) may only operate an appropriately sized ORV under direct supervision of a licensed adult.
- Never operate an ATV without an approved motorcycle helmet, eye protection, boots, gloves, long pants and long-sleeved shirt or jacket.
- Members may be asked at any time by Range Control Staff, Military Police or ORV Director/assistant to provide proof of the above documents while on Base. (Registration, Insurance, Ownership, trail permit decal and Rod and Gun Membership card)
- Use of the trail system is a privilege and not a right! Violation of any of these rules may result in prosecution, suspension or cancellation of operating privileges on base and suspension of club membership privileges.
- Assist in the setup of tree stands, ORV use is allowed or the last week of Aug (after working hours on the Friday) and to the end of the first week of Sep (Sunday). This would be the opportunity for those members wishing to do any final set up for the upcoming hunt as well this would allow for the removal and moving and or installation of tree stands with the assistance of the ORV. (note: Booked Training has priority)
- Only hunters with a medical condition requiring the use of the vehicle to access the training area for a hunt will be authorized the vehicle use, this will be on a case-by-case basis approved by the Rod and Gun Club President and the Range Control rep.
- Hunters may use an ORV to retrieve a deer from the area of the harvest site to the closest road where both the ORV and the animal can be loaded onto the vehicle or the trailer. This will be regulated so that the ORV must remain on the truck or trailer until it is required for the retrieval of the animal.
- ORV’s will not be used to access a tree stand for hunting, baiting or checking cameras; hunters must plan their visits to their stands accordingly with their location in mind.
- During the controlled hunt period, the same rules will apply except only one ORV per hunting team will be allowed to accompany the team on their hunt all the rules above will apply.
Rules for DND Vehicles & Training
- Military training will always take priority. If there is training in a certain riding area, riding in that area may be limited or not be allowed.
- ORV training at the unit level is expected to follow the same rules as recreational riders with the exception of needing a BBRGC membership and trail pass to access the trail network.
- All ORV riders are to always stay on the designated trail(s) and are to take the safest and shortest route to and from your PMQ/Residence or workplace to travel to a designated trail head.
- Access points are indic
ated with yellow/white triangle trail markers. These trails are intendent to give users access to main trails from streets, parking lots and residential areas only and are not for general circulation, traveling is to be kept to a minimum. - Pendarosa is a hybrid use zone. While not part of the Range Training Area, it is often used for military driver training for both tracked and wheeled vehicles. Riders are to proceed with caution if travelling in this area during weekday work hours. The terrain consists of deep soft sand and is continually changing with tank ruts.
No Go Zones
No Go Zones (NGZ) are designated areas that ORV are NOT ALLOWED TO OPERATE IN due to public safety and/or environmental protection due to species at risk. Ignorance is not an excuse and breaking these NGZ regulations could result in riding privileges being suspended, and/or your rod and gun membership being revoked.North side of the hydro lines off Tank Road towards the WW1 training trench area, this is a historical landmark with lots of foot traffic.
Anderson Park Golf Club (old golf course) STAY OFF THE GRASS! The grasslands are nesting grounds for ground birds and turtles. There are plenty of authorized trails to use in this area if ever trails need to get temporarily diverted during turtle nesting season. DO NOT disturb the turtle nesting boxes or bird nest.
Northwest of Gate 33 Road towards Firefighter Training Academy, this is a training area with poor fencing.
Connector trails outside the base fence line to provincially ran trail systems from Alliston and Lisle gates.
